The coronavirus crisis has contributed significantly to the ever-increasing impact of digital technologies on our way of life. As a result of the crisis, many people were forced to move their activities to a virtual environment, whether it was work or education. During quarantine, social networks became even more important for maintaining contact with loved ones.
Therefore, the debate about how technologies, especially mobile phones and communication applications, have a negative effect on our psyche, interpersonal relationships, or even access to work, is becoming more and more topical. Communication technologies undoubtedly affect our ability to rest and "switch off". It is more difficult for us to focus on reading a longer text. Thanks to online navigation, we hardly develop spatial orientation, and it has been proven that our memory deteriorates dramatically as a result. On social networks, it is difficult not to compare oneself with others, not to succumb to anxiety about one's own mediocrity, or perhaps just not to waste hours unnecessarily. Addiction to social networks has been successfully ranked alongside "traditional" addictions. Interpersonal relationships are noticeably changing in a digitized society - the relationships we establish are looser, more open, we often maintain them only thanks to social networks, and then they end quickly in personal contact.
Do technologies really have such a negative impact on our lives? They will share their opinions with us:
Karel Kovář / Kovy - youtuber
Petra Průšová, General Director for Central and Eastern Europe, Kantar CR
Julia Szymańska - Avast's online security specialist and ambassador for the Be Safe Online project
Markéta Šetinová - sociologist, consultant and therapist with a focus on dating and partnerships (AYLP alumni)
Alžběta Protivanská - psychologist, psychotherapy and inner peace
The debate is moderated by Tomáš Ervín Dombrovský, Chief Analyst at LMC.
The debate takes place as part of the Society 4.0 debate cycle, in which discussions take place with the participation of leading experts on issues related to new technologies and their impact on society.
We look forward to you!
